Elections are an excellent way of promoting your policies but there is always a danger as the ruling class are not simply going to give up power without some sort of struggle. elections therefore should be a platform for promoting revolutionary politics and nothing more with that in mind i think it is important that revolutionary socialist candidates remain independent from reformist candidates as these people do not always have the best interests of the people at heart. in practice however such autonomy can be quite hard to keep and the temptation to trade some ground on the policy front in return for some political power a trap that has snared many good comrades in the past. another problem is focusing on one struggle so intently that it has a negative effect on other equally important struggles. the revolution is not going to happen immediately but in order to society to progress beyond petty capitalism it must happen and by using democratic elections to get socialist ideas out into the public consciousness our radical goals become more realistic.
